February 5-6, 2006 Eta Tauri, Alcyone, Spectacular Northern Limit Graze for Southwestern Oregon.

Expedition to Langlois by Chris Stephan

New: 2006 January 31

February 5-6, 2006 brings another Pleiades occultation. During this
time, there will be a very nice northern limit graze of 2.9
magnitude Eta Tauri, Alcyone. The cusp angle puts this graze 4
degrees into the dark side, making it quite spectacular. The limit
line passes just south of Langlois, Oregon in SW Oregon. US 101 goes
through Langlois along the Pacific coast. Langlois is about 40 miles
south of Coos Bay. You can see a plot of the path in that area, and
other information about this graze, on Derek Breit's Web site.

Chris Stephan, of Robert Clyde Observatory in Coos Bay, Oregon, will
be the team leader for the graze in Langlois. At this time, I am the
only one going, and can use others. Please contact me by e-mail or
by phone, given below, if you can attend. Be aware that this is the
rainy season along the Oregon Coast, so I cannot guarantee the
weather. It will be best to call the evening of Sunday Feb. 5, no
later than 9PM PST to verify if the meeting is on.

The mid graze occurs at 0908UT, Feb. 6, or 0108 PST. We will meet in
Langlois at 11PM PST. I will give the exact meeting location at a
further date. I will be observing the graze visually with my 10"
reflector, shortwave and tape recorder. I will have a GPS unit with
me. I will try to get a topographic map of the area before hand. I
would love to have someone with a webcam to video record this event.

I would like to invite observers to be apart of the team. Please
contact me at the phone numbers below if you can attend, or e-mail
me. Thanks.
