Kiran Shah's lunar dark side recordings of Nov. 18

Added to this site 2001 Nov. 26
Hello,

I am out of town on work till the middle of next week. I intend to
get the tape digitized as soon as I am back and will put up the
events on the web.

We were mostly observing an area near Mare Crisium (I think! as this
is probably the first time I have tried to identify any feature on
the moon). This area was near the middle of the dark side of the
terminator. [probably not Mare Crisium, which was on the bright
side at the time - DWD].

I am putting down a list of events below. I hope to have digitized
avi or mpeg files on the web for most / all of them in about two
weeks time with selenographic coordinates

Observers:
1) Kiran Shah, 129 B, Law College Road, Pune 411016, India
2) Pradyumna Gogte
3) Surabhi Ganguly

Location of Observation: Mont Vert, Pune.

Long: 73 50 E, Lat: 18 34 N, Elev: ~600m

UT Date: November 18, 2001, UT Start: 12h30m, UT End: ~15h 10m (till
moonset)

Instrument: C8 at f/10 used with Watec 902B with out any filters
execpt those that are on the CCD chip at prime focus on an
equatorially mounted telescope with a drive. The video output was
recorded on a VHS tape (PAL format) and also seen simultaneously on
a 14" TV monitor. The timings were recorded on paper to the nearest
minute whenever there was a event observed on the TV monitor. So the
timings that are given will be after that minute has started eg. an
event at 12:50:36 would be recorded as 12:50. We had set this up on
the 11th floor terrace.

Seening: 7, Transparency: ~3 (?)Location was in the city which is light
polluted.

Clouds: variable, very few. There was a bit of haze in front of the moon
from 15 UT onwards.

I should have some more info in two weeks time when I have properly
reviewed and digitized the tape and have put up a location on each
of them. Till then this list may be treated as a preliminary list.
Only one event was 'blatant' and on multiple frames, though most
show alternate brightening on two or three scan lines with the
interlaced scan lines dimmer. Also with multiple events in one
minute in some cases the video tape counter could prove useful?

Hope this helps at this current point in time.

Regards

Kiran Shah
