Occultations by Pluto and its satellites - Updated 2007 September 26, 18h UT
The brightest star (mag. 8.7) to possibly be occulted by Pluto, Charon, or possible Plutonian rings will occur on September 27 UT
The occultation by Charon is now expected to be visible from a large part of Asia
Predictions of events to 2020
Information about all known observations of the 2007 March 18th occultation observed from North America
Detailed prediction information about the occultation of 8.7-mag. SAO 160793 on September 27 UT is here. The best observations can be made from central to southeastern Asia, with good observations also possible from western Australia and the Indian Ocean. There is a smaller chance of occultations by distant ring particles at much greater distances that could occur even more than 12h from the 15h UT time of closest approach so observers around the world might be able to make some contributions. The occultation of a 14.9-mag. star by at least the atmosphere of Pluto was observed from dozens of observatories in North America on 2007 March 18. Information about these observations is here.

Click here for a list of occultations of UCAC2 stars that will be occulted by either Pluto or Charon (or by both) from 2004 to 2020, computed by David Herald with Occult using the latest (as of 2004; a better one is available now) ephemeris for Pluto, and orbital elements for Charon relative to Pluto. The occelmnt file that can be used to obtain details and maps of these events with the Occult program is here; it is a plain ASCII text file.
