Possible Lunar Meteor Impact Observations in 2002

Late 2002 Meteor News - updated Dec. 16

Click here to read about possible lunar Geminids on 2002 Dec. 13/14 (none reported yet) and about my and Gary Frishkorn's video observations of atmospheric Leonids from the North Carolina Outer Banks on 2002 November 19.

Lunar Perseids in 2002

Several videorecordings of the Moon's dark side were obtained on August 12, 13, and 14 UT, around the Perseid maximum, and several flashes have been reported, but none have been confirmed; most may be cosmic ray hits on our sensitive cameras. I have not had time to review my times with CONTOUR and trying to get caught up on backlogged occultation work. Peter Gural's predicted geometry of the opportunity (view of the Moon showing where the meteors were likely to strike) is here.

Some observations from August 12 in Maryland

Possible flashes recorded Aug. 12 - updated 2002 Aug. 12
